Billy's mummy had bought three garden ornaments, and had
put them on the window ledge in the kitchen.
There was a fat dog with long ears, a red toadstool with two
frogs sitting on top and a brown goose with an orange beak.
Billy always had his drawing book and his pen that is shaped
like a boomerang near him, because he was always looking
for something to draw.
He saw the three garden ornaments, and wanted to draw them
so he asked his mummy if he could take them down from the
window ledge, and put them on the floor in the living-room.
His mummy said,'yes' and gave him the fat dog with long ears,
the red toadstool with two frogs sitting on top and the brown
goose with an orange beak.
Billy carefully took them through to the living-room, and put
them on the carpet. He then turned to a clean page on his
drawing book and started to draw.
Billy drew each garden ornament carefully then coloured
them in. He had just finished, when the fat dog, the red toadstool with the two frogs sitting on top and the brown goose
with the orange beak came alive and jumped from the page.
The fat dog sat down on the carpet, and it began to scratch
itself, then it got up and was sniffing at things in the living-room.
The two frogs that had been sitting on top of the red toadstool
had jumped down, now they were jumping all over the place.
The brown goose with the orange beak was waddling about
and making a terrible noise. Billy was sure his mummy would
come in to the living-room to see what was making the noise.
The fat dog started to bark, and the two frogs started to croak
at the tops of their voices.
Billy had to stop them. He pointed the pen at the fat dog, the
two frogs and the goose, also the red toadstool which had been
standing still next to the real garden toadstool. Then he
pointed to the drawing book, and with a little flash of light
coming from the pen all the paper garden ornaments went
back on to the page.
Billy picked up the real ornaments and carried them back
to the kitchen. His mummy asked him if he had,had a nice time
drawing, and he said 'yes.'
He was glad that his mummy had not heard all the noise.
Maybe he was the only one who heard the fat dog barking,
the frogs croaking and the goose making a terrible noise.
The Magical Pen, shaped like a boomerang, and his drawing
book was put away in his toy cupboard for another day.

Billy's Magical Pen
Billy had been sent a lovely pen from his Aunt Grace in
Australia. It was shaped like a boomerang and had a picture
of a kangaroo and some squiggly bits on it, that looked like
writing.
Billy asked his mummy and daddy if they knew what the writing
said but they didn't know, and wasn't sure if it was only some
pattern on the boomerang.
He loved his pen and went upstairs to get his drawing book. Billy
was forever going through pens as he loved to draw. He would draw birds, and dogs and cats, sometimes he would try and
draw his toy soldiers. He loved drawing so much,he would
try and copy anything he saw.
The day he got the pen, the weather was warm and sunny,
so he went out to the garden to see what he could draw.
There was a little bird sitting on the fence, so he decided to
draw that. When he had finished drawing and colouring in,
something very strange happened; the little bird came alive
and flew out of the page.
Billy stood up and watched with his mouth wide open, as the
little paper bird flew over to the fence where the real little
bird was sitting.
The real bird looked at the paper bird, then it flew away
leaving the paper little bird all alone. Billy then decided to
draw another little bird. When he had finished drawing and
colouring in the second little bird did the same as the first.
It also became alive and flew out of the paper.
It flew over to the fence where the other paper bird was sitting,
and they both sat next to each other, chirping away. In fact
Billy was sure that he saw one of the little birds put a wing
round the other little bird.
Billy had been given a magical pen. He didn't tell his mummy
and daddy what had happened. He was going to keep it a secret,
well just for a little while.
He was sure he was going to have an adventure with his magical
pen. For now though he put it back in the box until the next
day when he would draw something else.
